If only I were actually painting this in Ireland! Wouldn’t that be fabulous?
Anyway, this sketchbook page is from following along – mostly – a wild wonder conference talk from Roisin Cure, an Irish artist. Mostly because I didn’t paint exactly what she was painting at the time, and mostly because I had different supplies with me than she did. Of course, now I have the “I want more art supplies. Yes, I do. What do you mean I don’t have a shelf to put them on?” feeling! (Must make more progress on setting up the top room/creative space!)
She uses a couple of really interesting looking fountain pens with interesting nibs to get different size strokes, and sketch ink (which is different from writing ink in how it flows and dries), and she’s using different brands of watercolors that I have tried. It just all looks fun.
Her crabs are intensely colored. I think that is a partly combination of paint choices and paper, and partly style/application. I am working hard to be more intense with my color, but it’s really a challenging process for me. How wet is the paint, how much is in the brush, what am I doing with the brush, getting color on the page where I might make a mistake!
But when I don’t look at hers for comparison, I really like the ones I’ve done.
Also, I did a time lapse video. The phone-camera was propped up on a french press coffee maker, and I forgot to just wait at the end for a still image. I’ll try to post that in a next post, but if it doesn’t work, check my instagram later this week.
