Deep in the mangroves lurk defenders: oddly-trained manatees, strange-shadowed merfolk. They are allied with the alligators…sometimes. They speak to the trees often and to the humans rarely. Will-o-wisps occasionally carry their messages. Don’t ask me how I know. The Mangrovians seek invaders of all kinds, and do what they can to repel them. The spear, the bite, and entanglements are their preferred tools. 

If you are lost, you in your kayak, your binoculars cracked, you might see or hear one… but probably not. They will see you, and if you are very, very lucky, your boat will be …directed… to the edges of the forest. If you can get home from there, you will deserve it.
